Jaipur, March 23: The Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee (RPCC) will appoint chairpersons for all newly formed gram panchayats, while the process for appointing ward chairpersons in urban local bodies has already begun. Starting April 1, 2026, the RPCC will initiate a statewide campaign titled ‘Organize to Save Democracy.’
Under this initiative, chairpersons will be appointed at both the ward and gram panchayat levels, followed by the formation of 21-member executive committees. This announcement was made by RPCC President Govind Singh Dotasra during a press conference at the state Congress headquarters in Jaipur.
Dotasra alleged that the Rajasthan government is deliberately delaying elections for urban local bodies and panchayati raj institutions out of fear of electoral defeat. He claimed that various excuses are being made to postpone these elections. Furthermore, he accused the state government of delaying the formation of the OBC Representation Commission and failing to provide it with adequate resources. Citing the absence of the commission’s report, he stated that the government is attempting to delay elections despite court directives.
He questioned how the commission could complete its survey and submit a report without sufficient resources, asserting that the government seems unwilling to accept the report to delay panchayati raj elections.
According to him, this constitutes a direct attack on democratic processes. Dotasra also criticized the state government for allegedly using a flawed voter list for panchayati raj elections. He noted that the Election Commission has completed the Special Summary Revision (SSR) process, yet the government continues to cite the lack of an updated list.
He accused the government of issuing a defective voter list, reflecting a lack of faith in democratic values, and claimed that the government is misleading the public. To address these concerns, the RPCC will launch a 30-day statewide awareness campaign starting April 1.
This campaign will be conducted by local Congress units at gram panchayat headquarters, block Congress committees at ward and block levels, and district Congress committees at district headquarters.
The aim of this campaign is to raise awareness about democratic rights and strengthen organizational capacity. During this campaign, Dotasra, along with opposition leader Tikaram Julie, will tour districts across the state.
