Mumbai, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : Renowned actor Raj Kumar had an undeniable charisma that captivated audiences in mere moments. His unique style of dialogue delivery and stage presence made him a beloved figure in Indian cinema. One memorable anecdote shared by fellow actor Raza Murad highlights Raj Kumar’s admiration for the legendary Dilip Kumar.
In a recent interview, Raza Murad recounted an incident showcasing Raj Kumar’s deep respect for Dilip Kumar’s craft. After watching the film ‘Ganga Jamuna’ in a theater, Raj Kumar was so impressed by Dilip’s performance that he decided to pay him a visit at approximately 1:30 AM. Upon arriving at Dilip’s home, he called out to him, saying, “Jaani Yusuf Khan, I just watched your film ‘Ganga Jamuna’, and tonight we learned that there are only two actors in this country, Raj Kumar and Dilip Kumar.”
After delivering this heartfelt compliment, Raj Kumar left, leaving Dilip Kumar both surprised and touched by the gesture.
Released in 1961, ‘Ganga Jamuna’ featured Dilip Kumar as the elder brother Ganga and Nasir Khan as the younger brother Jamuna. The film tells the story of their upbringing under the care of their impoverished widow mother. Ganga works tirelessly in the fields to provide an education for his brother, while Jamuna eventually becomes a police officer. In contrast, Ganga is forced into a life of crime due to the harsh realities of their environment.
The narrative unfolds the conflict between law and duty versus brotherly love, highlighting various struggles within relationships.
Years later, both actors reunited on screen in the film ‘Saudagar’, released in 1991. Their collaboration was a significant moment for fans, showcasing their distinct screen personalities—Dilip Kumar’s serious and nuanced acting paired with Raj Kumar’s commanding voice and delivery. The film was well-received, achieving substantial box office success.
