Patna, 24 August (Kiran News). Due to continuous heavy rainfall in neighbouring Jharkhand, a record amount of water has entered the border Falgu river, prompting Bihar’s Water Resources Department to issue a high alert. Excessive water flow in the Falgu river has created flood-like conditions in Nalanda, Jehanabad, and Gaya. The Zamindari dam has been damaged at nine locations.

The Lokain river, passing through the western region of Nalanda district, is also in spate. In addition, the Muhane river is overflowing. On the Ekangarsarai-Jehanabad main road, near Milkipur village in Jehanabad district, four feet of Falgu river water is flowing over the road, causing traffic to come to a halt. Direct connectivity between Nalanda and Jehanabad has been severed. Furthermore, near Okri village, floodwater is flowing over the Ekangarsarai-Masaurhi road, stopping vehicle movement.
Water continues to spread into fields due to breached embankments.
Thousands of acres of lush paddy crops have been submerged. Floodwater has entered around 12 villages near Ekangarsarai and Hilsa. People are taking shelter on rooftops and higher ground nearby. A population of nearly ten thousand has been affected by the flood. In Mandach-Meanabazar Road in Ekangarsarai, six villages have lost connection to the block headquarters due to erosion near Lalbagh. Flooding has caused two feet of water to flow for two kilometres on the Hilsa-Pabheri road, near the Redi bridge, Damodarpur, and Shoharapur villages. In Jehanabad, about 20,000 people in 20–25 villages have been affected.
