New Delhi, March 18: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken serious note of a recently released song from the upcoming film ‘KD: The Devil.’ The commission alleges that the song contains obscene, sexually provocative, and double-meaning lyrics that are inappropriate for children and minors.
The complainant argues that this song is widely available on television, social media, and other public platforms, potentially harming the mental health and moral development of young audiences.
The NHRC bench, headed by member Priyank Kanungo, has initiated action under Section 12 of the Human Rights Protection Act, 1993. The commission has deemed this a violation of children’s rights.
The complaint states that the increasing trend of such obscene songs in mainstream entertainment is normalizing inappropriate behavior and expression among young viewers.
The NHRC has directed immediate action in this matter. It has issued notices to various institutions, requesting an “Action Taken Report” (ATR) within two weeks.
The institutions notified include the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and Google India’s Public Policy department.
All parties are instructed to investigate the allegations in the complaint, review the song’s content, and submit a detailed report to the commission. A copy of the report is also to be emailed to bench-mpkegov.in. The complaint has been shared with all relevant parties.
The NHRC has clarified that it possesses the powers of a civil court in such matters and can take strict measures to protect human rights. If the report is not submitted within two weeks, the commission may pursue further legal action.
The complainant has urged the commission to issue guidelines to the relevant authorities to prevent such content in the future and safeguard the moral environment for minors.
