Rain Delays Second Day of Test Match Between Sri Lanka and India

Galle, August 16: The Test match between Sri Lanka and India at Galle International Stadium has been affected by rain. Only 73 overs were played on the first day due to the weather. Rain has also disrupted the second day, preventing the match from starting on time.

The match was scheduled to begin at 10 AM Indian time, but continuous rain has delayed the proceedings. The entire ground is currently covered. Rain stopped at 10:12 AM Indian time, but the ground is still wet, which may prolong the delay. No official start time has been announced yet. However, Sri Lanka’s drainage system is efficient, and since the ground is fully covered, it is expected that the field will not remain wet for long. If the rain holds off, the match could start soon.

The first day was dominated by India. Indian captain Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bat. KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened the innings, adding 47 runs for the first wicket before Jaiswal was dismissed for 32 runs. Rahul and Devdutt Padikkal then stabilized the innings. Rahul retired hurt due to cramps after scoring 77 runs off 162 balls, which included 9 fours and 1 six. He may return to bat on the second day.

Shubman Gill was dismissed for 16 runs. Rishabh Pant and Devdutt Padikkal are currently at the crease. Padikkal has scored his maiden Test century, making 131 runs off 178 balls, with 12 fours and 1 six. Pant remains unbeaten on 27 runs from 36 balls.
