New Delhi, August 16: The BWF World Badminton Championship 2026 is set to take place from August 17 to August 23 at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. India’s top shuttlers will participate in this prestigious event. Olympic medalist PV Sindhu expressed that hosting the championship in India is particularly special.
In a media interaction, Sindhu stated, “It is very special to have the World Championship in India. I am very excited and happy. It has been a long time since the championship was held in India. I won the World Championship in 2019, and after almost seven years, I hope to perform well again. The Japan Open has given me a lot of confidence. I hope to maintain that. Everything is going well. I am focusing on one match at a time and looking forward to the competition. We will receive great support from the locals. I will try to win a medal.”
French player Christo Popov remarked, “I believe it has been a significant achievement for my confidence to progress through the World Tour Finals. I had good results at the European Championship and Japan Open. I also feel I can perform well in the World Tour and major tournaments consistently. My preparation for the World Championship has been good, and I aim to deliver my best performance in India.”
French athlete Alex Lanier added, “I think we have prepared well. We were in China for some additional training to refresh ourselves. I believe we gained the right energy there.”
Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn, the winner of the 2023 World Championship, commented, “I think men’s singles is truly challenging. Every position is tough. I am back in India and very happy. I will try to give my best in this tournament.”
