Indian Mens Hockey Team Faces England in World Cup Showdown

New Delhi, August 16: The FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 has kicked off, co-hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands from August 15 to 30. The Indian men’s team made a strong start by defeating Wales 3-1 on Saturday. Their next match is against England.

On Independence Day, the Indian team secured a victory over Wales, with captain Harmanpreet Singh playing a crucial role. He scored two goals from penalty corners, while Sanjay Rana netted the first goal in the 9th minute.

The Indian team, part of Pool D, will face England on Monday at 6:30 PM IST. To advance in the tournament, India needs a significant win against England, who will present a tougher challenge than Wales.

Historically, the two teams have met 141 times, with England leading the series. England has won 90 matches, while India has claimed victory in 28, with 23 matches ending in a draw.

In World Cup matches, England and India have faced each other nine times, with England winning four and India three, while two matches ended in ties. Both teams have scored 15 goals against each other in World Cup encounters.

India has consistently challenged England in the World Cup. In the upcoming match, Harmanpreet and his team must deliver a strong performance to overcome England. Notably, India has not won a medal in the Hockey World Cup since 1975.
