New Delhi, March 21: Renowned spinner R Ashwin has lauded the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) squad for the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL), following their triumph in IPL 2025. He believes the team is well-equipped to clinch the IPL title again in the upcoming seasons.
Ashwin asserts that RCB appears significantly more balanced and robust compared to previous years.
On his YouTube channel, Ashwin stated, “With this squad, RCB can win another title in the next two years. Winning the IPL is not easy, but the team and their replacement options make them special.”
Before IPL 2025, RCB released all players except Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Yash Dayal during the mega auction. Subsequently, they strengthened their lineup by acquiring Phil Salt, Jitesh Sharma, Josh Hazlewood, Tim David, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the auction.
Ashwin believes these changes have transformed RCB into a balanced unit, reducing their reliance on a single star player. The way they have addressed team weaknesses could keep them consistently among the top teams.
However, RCB faces a challenge with fast bowler Josh Hazlewood’s fitness issues, as he will not be available for the initial matches.
In response, Ashwin remarked, “If Hazlewood is unavailable, the team can adopt a different combination. The team’s strength lies in its flexibility and depth. Where there were once accusations of imbalance, now there are options for every role.”
He added, “This support is not just due to winning a title, but also because of the team’s structure and their ability to handle challenging situations.”
RCB will kick off IPL 2026 on March 28 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
