Putin Congratulates Irans New Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, Reaffirms Support

Moscow, March 9: Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended his congratulations to Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, upon his assumption of office. This information was disclosed in an official statement from the Kremlin.

The statement emphasized that Russia has been a “reliable partner” to Iran and will continue to stand by Tehran. This message comes at a time when tensions in the Middle East are at a peak, and Iran is navigating a new leadership structure amid regional conflicts.

In the message released on the Kremlin’s website, Putin noted that assuming the role of Supreme Leader during such challenging times requires courage and determination. He expressed confidence that Mojtaba Khamenei would honor his father’s legacy and unite the Iranian people in difficult circumstances. Putin also affirmed that Russia would maintain its strategic partnership with Tehran and continue its cooperation.

In his congratulatory message, Vladimir Putin advised Iran to face attacks with full resolve. According to the message, “Now that Iran is under armed attack, you will undoubtedly need great courage and sacrifice in your position.”

Mojtaba Khamenei was recently elected as the new Supreme Leader of Iran by the powerful religious body, the Assembly of Experts. He is the son of the late Iranian leader Ali Khamenei and has long been considered influential in Iran’s political-religious landscape. This leadership transition occurs as Iran faces both regional conflicts and international pressures.

In recent years, Russia and Iran have strategically aligned more closely. Following the Ukraine war and Western sanctions, military, energy, and diplomatic cooperation between Moscow and Tehran has increased.
