Chandigarh, September 12 (Daily Kiran) : Former Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar has sharply criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, for the ongoing power crisis in the state. Speaking on Saturday, Jakhar attributed the crisis to poor governance and financial mismanagement within the state’s power corporation.
Jakhar claimed that the government has weakened the power corporation to serve its political interests, resulting in an increased risk of power outages in Punjab. He stated that the truth behind the AAP’s so-called “electricity revolution” has now come to light, following their earlier claims of transforming the education and health sectors.
In his statement, Jakhar noted, “Industries are facing prolonged power cuts, and domestic consumers are also suffering from hours of electricity outages. This reflects the government’s poor administrative capabilities and the financial damage inflicted on the power corporation for political gain.”
He highlighted the negative impact of the power shortage on the state’s economy. Despite a weak monsoon increasing irrigation demands, farmers are reportedly not receiving adequate electricity supply at night, with daytime conditions being even worse.
Jakhar warned that the future could be even more challenging for Punjab’s power sector. He accused Chief Minister Mann of prioritizing his political survival over addressing the state’s pressing issues.
He emphasized that a government cannot function solely through “jokes and pretenses.” According to Jakhar, the current situation is a direct result of the government’s failure to adequately fulfill its administrative responsibilities.
Furthermore, he alleged that the government has attempted to alter the financial structure of the power corporation to suit its political needs, leading to the current crisis. Jakhar urged the people of Punjab to hold the government accountable for its actions and demand answers.
