Punjab Police Uncovers Illegal Arms Trafficking Module, Two Arrested

Amritsar, March 27: The Punjab Police’s counter-intelligence unit in Amritsar has successfully dismantled an illegal arms trafficking module operating across the border. Two suspects have been arrested, and authorities seized ten foreign-made sophisticated pistols along with magazines from their possession.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the accused were acting on the orders of a foreign gangster and were collaborating with traffickers based in Pakistan to smuggle illegal weapons into India. This shipment was intended for criminal elements within Punjab.

An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Arms Act and the BNS Act at the S.S.O.C. police station in Amritsar. The police are actively investigating to uncover the entire network, tracing both forward and backward links, and the inquiry is ongoing.

The Punjab Police remains committed to its ‘zero tolerance’ policy against illegal arms trafficking, organized crime, and anti-national activities, aiming to ensure a safe and secure Punjab.

Earlier, on Thursday, an intelligence team in Jalandhar achieved a significant breakthrough by busting an interstate illegal weapon supply module. During this operation, two suspects from Uttar Pradesh were apprehended, with ten locally made pistols (7.65 mm) and twenty magazines recovered.

Previously, two members of the BKF were arrested for allegedly purchasing and planting three grenades and an IED under the direction of their foreign handler near Balachaur. These IEDs were later used in an explosion at the Nalagarh police station in Himachal Pradesh. The suspects were also involved in purchasing weapons for extortion at a travel agent’s residence in Garhshankar, following instructions from foreign brokers.
