Successful Community Policing Program in Bijapur Appeals to Maoists to Rejoin Mainstream

Bijapur, March 27: A successful community policing program was held in Kerpe village, located in the Maoist-affected Bijapur district. Approximately 300 to 400 villagers from Kerpe, Marimadgu, Peddagundapur, Madepur, Odri, and surrounding areas participated enthusiastically in the event.

The program was chaired by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Kutaru, Brij Kishore Yadav, who informed the villagers about various government welfare schemes, education for children, employment opportunities, and health-related issues. He emphasized that by taking advantage of government initiatives, villagers could improve their futures and that of their families.

Former Maoists who have returned to the mainstream also shared their experiences during the event. They described life in the forests as painful and distressing. They urged their peers to abandon the path of violence and return to their families, stating, “Instead of wandering in the forests, live a peaceful life with your family and build your future. Your loved ones have been waiting for you for a long time.”

The Sub-Divisional Police Officer also appealed to active Maoists to accept change and engage in social life. He noted that violence does not lead to personal growth or societal benefit.

During the program, essential supplies were distributed to needy villagers, educational materials to schoolchildren, and sports equipment to the youth. A positive enthusiasm was observed among the villagers, with many pledging to actively participate in their children’s education and local development efforts. Additionally, a mobile unit from the Kutaru Community Health Center provided medical services to those in need.

The officer in charge of the Bedare police station stated that the community policing program is building a bridge of trust between the police and the public. Such initiatives not only raise awareness but also strengthen the processes of peace and development in Maoist-affected areas.
