
Jalandhar, June 6: A police raid in the Mehthpur area of Jalandhar turned chaotic when a confrontation broke out between officers and the family of an accused individual. The accused, identified as Lovepreet, also known as Lavi, sustained injuries during the incident and later died while receiving treatment.
According to reports, police received a tip-off that Lovepreet was at his home, wanted in connection with an attempted murder case. Acting on this information, SHO Aman Saini and his team arrived at the village of Bangiwal. A dispute quickly escalated between the accused, his relatives, and the police.
During the altercation, witnesses reported hearing gunfire. The police claimed that two rounds were fired in self-defense, resulting in one bullet striking Lovepreet in the leg. He was immediately rushed to the civil hospital in Nakodar, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Videos recorded by bystanders during the incident have since gone viral on social media. Lovepreet’s uncle, Chinda Singh, alleged that the police were attempting to arrest Lovepreet while he was in the bathroom. He claimed that as Lovepreet emerged, a gunman in plain clothes shot him from behind.
SSP Harvinder Singh Virk stated that the police are investigating all aspects of the case and assured that legal action would be taken based on the findings. He emphasized that anyone found guilty would face consequences.
