Chandigarh, August 7: Punjab Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat stated that the state government is dedicated to providing employment opportunities for the youth, aiming to prevent them from seeking jobs abroad.
In a recent conversation, he emphasized that under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s leadership and the guidance of Aam Aadmi Party’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, regular government jobs are being offered to the youth. The recruitment process is ongoing; as employees retire, new hires are made, and this will continue in the future. Regarding the demand for an increase in the cost of living allowance for employees, he mentioned that the Chief Minister has already clarified that the Punjab government is paying more than the central government on this matter, which is also under consideration by the central authorities. He added that not every problem can be solved through protests.
On the issue of the Canadian government canceling visas for some students from Punjab, Mohinder Bhagat expressed that the government stands with students studying abroad, especially those from Punjab. He stressed that relevant authorities should conduct thorough investigations before taking any action. It is inappropriate to suddenly cancel visas or send students back after they have invested significant amounts in their admissions and travel. The state government will continue to support the interests of these students.
When questioned about the Congress protests, the minister stated that he does not have the authority to comment on other political parties. However, he believes that Congress appears to have accepted defeat before the elections, which is why the party is entangled in internal conflicts. This matter should be handled by the Congress high command.
Additionally, Punjab Minister Barinder Goyal mentioned that the Indian Geological Survey (GSI) conducted a survey in 1992-93, and the government has now obtained related documents. He noted that these reports have been presented in the Punjab Assembly and will be shared with all, including the opposition. The reports include information on potash and suggestions from Indian Oil officials. He expressed surprise that the opposition is taking this issue lightly, as they failed to act on these reports when they were in power. At the very least, the government should be appreciated for bringing this issue to light now.
He concluded by stating that democracy should function in a way where important issues are highlighted and acted upon. Criticizing Congress, he remarked that the party is preoccupied with internal drama instead of addressing public concerns, both inside and outside the assembly.
