Jalandhar, July 18: Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party President, Kewal Singh Dhillon, stated on Friday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently brought development initiatives to Punjab. He expressed gratitude on behalf of the people of Punjab during a public gathering attended by the Prime Minister and party leaders.
Dhillon highlighted that PM Modi inaugurated projects worth hundreds of crores today. He thanked the Prime Minister for protecting farmers’ interests by excluding wheat and dairy products from trade agreements with European countries. As he spoke, PM Modi, symbolizing the farming community in a green turban, smiled.
He noted that the trade agreements with European nations would benefit Punjab significantly. Products like hosiery and bicycles from Ludhiana, sports goods and leather products from Jalandhar, machinery from Batala, and Punjab’s basmati rice, fruits, and vegetables will now be exported tariff-free to 27 European countries.
Dhillon emphasized that the Modi government has consistently increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat and rice farmers in Punjab. He claimed that during the Congress regime, MSP increases were limited to just 10-15 rupees, whereas under PM Modi, there have been substantial increases without farmers having to demand them.
Identifying himself as a farmer’s son, Dhillon asserted that Punjab cannot progress unless its farmers are prosperous. The BJP government is committed to ensuring farmers’ welfare.
He pointed out that while many economies face recession, India has emerged as the world’s fifth-largest economy, boasting a growth rate of nearly seven percent. Dhillon expressed confidence that PM Modi’s vision of transforming India into a developed nation by 2047 will soon be realized. He mentioned that before 2014, India had only two mobile manufacturing units, which have now surged to nearly 300 under PM Modi’s leadership.
Looking ahead to 2027, Dhillon envisioned a government inspired by Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s ‘Sarkar-e-Khalsa,’ which would restore the state’s pride while tackling issues like drugs, gangsters, and unemployment.
Addressing concerns about Punjab’s economy, Dhillon stated that drugs, unemployment, and gangsters have plunged the state into difficult circumstances. He asserted that the only solution is the formation of a BJP government in Punjab in 2027.
Dhillon launched a fierce attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, claiming that Punjab has slipped to 18th place in development rankings, while Uttar Pradesh has risen from 20th to 2nd place.
Former state BJP president Sunil Jakhar accused the AAP government of undermining constitutional and democratic values. He stated that Punjab is under a ‘bad spell’ and that only PM Modi can guide the state back on track.
Former state BJP president and MLA Ashwani Sharma remarked that PM Modi’s visit to Punjab came at a time when the state faces significant challenges. He held the AAP government responsible for the distress among youth, farmers, traders, and industries, labeling AAP’s national convenor Arvind Kejriwal as a ‘fake Sanatani.’
The gathering also featured speeches from former Punjab BJP president Shwet Malik, Manpreet Singh Badal, Parnit Kaur, former Union Minister Vijay Sampla, Avinash Rai Khanna, Manohar Singh Kalia, Ashok Mittal, former cricketer Harbhajan Singh Bhajji, and Rajya Sabha member Satnam Singh Sandhu.
