New Delhi, May 5: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has intensified its demand for President Droupadi Murmu’s intervention regarding the issue of political defection in Punjab. In this context, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met with President Murmu. Several legislators and ministers accompanied him to Delhi, but only the Chief Minister was granted permission to meet the President.
Before the meeting, Punjab Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO spoke to reporters, stating that they had come to raise a serious issue before the President under the Chief Minister’s leadership. He alleged that the Rajya Sabha members elected by the party later defected to other parties, which he described as a betrayal of public trust. He emphasized that appropriate action would be demanded in this matter.
Punjab Minister Balbir Singh echoed these sentiments, asserting that if the President can meet with defecting leaders, she should also meet with representatives from AAP. He noted that this issue transcends mere politics; it pertains to ethics and respect for the public mandate.
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that all AAP legislators came to express their concerns peacefully. The party boasts the support of 95 legislators in the Punjab Assembly, and they are presenting their worries to the President based on that mandate.
Cheema accused the BJP of attempting to gain power indirectly in states where the public has rejected them. He warned that the day is not far off when they might witness public protests against them on the streets of Punjab.
Minister Aman Arora revealed that a request for time was made for all legislators, but only the Chief Minister was allowed to meet the President. He affirmed their solidarity with Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann, stating they came to represent the sentiments of Punjab’s three crore people.
Similarly, Minister Sanjeev Arora remarked that even though not everyone was allowed to meet, the party remains united. He reiterated that all legislators and ministers stand firmly with the government and the Chief Minister.
