Punjab BJP Chief Criticizes AAP Governments Four-Year Record Amid Rising Crime and Debt

Chandigarh, March 16: Sunil Jakhar, the president of the Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party, criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government on Monday, stating that its primary achievements over the past four years include escalating debt and the rise of gang violence and drug abuse in the state.

Jakhar made these remarks as the AAP government marked its four-year anniversary. He claimed that the government has failed to manage law and order, and that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann cannot evade responsibility by labeling gang violence as an international issue.

According to Jakhar, the people of Punjab are well aware of the government’s performance. He noted that daily criminal incidents have created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among the populace. He mentioned that many individuals are receiving ransom calls, while the government continues to assert that everything is under control.

The BJP leader also pointed out that if the government’s claims about reducing or eliminating drug use were accurate, the police would not need to form committees in villages to request night patrols. This situation indicates serious challenges regarding law and order in the state.

Jakhar accused Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and his ‘super CM’ of remaining silent about their electoral promise of generating ₹20,000 crore from mining. He stated that illegal mining is rampant, and the government has failed to clarify where the revenue from this activity is going.

He raised several serious questions about the AAP government, which once claimed to fight corruption but now faces allegations of it. Jakhar questioned whether the party is now operating on the same funds it previously condemned.

He further stated that the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited is being pushed into financial distress under the guise of providing free and cheap electricity. Jakhar warned that if this trend continues, privatization of the electricity department could occur, placing the burden directly on Punjab’s consumers, who may not yet grasp the severity of the situation.

Jakhar also challenged the government’s so-called ‘education revolution model.’ He remarked that if merely painting buildings could bring about a revolution, then chameleons would be the greatest revolutionaries. He argued that if AAP leaders truly believed in their education system, they would send their children to public schools. He questioned how the general public could be influenced by a model that even the party’s own legislators do not trust.

The BJP leader alleged that corruption has reached unprecedented levels in the state, with reports of rising corruption rates in various departments. According to Jakhar, nearly every segment of society is dissatisfied with the current government.

He noted that government employees are not receiving their dearness allowance, and the government has failed to implement agricultural policies effectively. Jakhar criticized Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for shifting the responsibility of farmers’ issues onto the central government, despite many agricultural matters falling under the state government’s jurisdiction.
