Rajgir, March 16: A two-day exhibition and trade fair under the PM Vishwakarma Scheme is currently taking place at the International Convention Center in Rajgir, Bihar. The event aims to showcase the skills of traditional artisans and craftsmen while providing them access to a larger market for their products.
Artisans from various districts of Bihar, including carpenters, blacksmiths, potters, goldsmiths, tailors, masons, cobblers, and barbers, are participating in this fair. They are displaying and selling products crafted by their own hands.
Many beneficiaries of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme have shared that the training and financial assistance received through the program have significantly enhanced their traditional crafts. Some artisans are now creating new products with the help of modern machinery, while many women have found employment opportunities through sewing, embroidery, and handicrafts from the comfort of their homes.
The fair also aims to raise awareness among artisans about the benefits of the scheme. This includes free skill training, stipends during training, toolkits worth up to ₹15,000 for modern equipment, and loans ranging from ₹1 lakh to ₹2 lakh at low interest rates without any collateral. Additionally, artisans are being encouraged to adopt digital transactions.
Several beneficiaries shared their experiences. Sanoj Kumar from Gaya mentioned that he received training under this scheme. He highlighted that the government provides a loan of ₹1 lakh to help grow businesses, with the possibility of an additional ₹2 lakh loan if the business performs well. Kumar has been making idols for the past ten years and praised PM Modi for this excellent initiative.
Ghanshyam, a carpenter from Rohtas, reported that he received training and a loan of ₹1 lakh through the scheme. He is now utilizing a CNC machine for modern tasks like nameplate and acrylic cutting.
Sinku Devi expressed her gratitude for receiving sewing training along with a stipend and a complete toolkit, including a free motorized sewing machine. She described the central government’s initiative as a remarkable program.
Pratima Devi from Masaurhi shared that she makes toys and feels that the PM Vishwakarma Scheme has helped her life get back on track.
Aditya Raj from Patna stated that after five days of free training at ITI Digha, he received a certificate and a toolkit worth approximately ₹15,000, which includes a washing machine and an iron. This has enabled him to modernize his work. He also received a loan of ₹1 lakh.
Arvind Ravidas, a sculptor from Gaya, mentioned that during his training, he learned techniques to create new products based on market demand, allowing his work to gain a new identity.
