Pune, May 30: In a significant move, the Pune police administration has suspended three officers from the Hadapsar police station in connection with the recent deaths caused by toxic liquor consumption in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. The department deemed the negligence, inactivity, and lack of supervision by the involved officers as serious offenses.
The suspended officers include Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Mogale, Assistant Police Inspector Hasina Siklagar, and Police Sub-Inspector Hasan Mulani. All three were part of the Hadapsar police station and the associated crime investigation unit.
According to a directive issued by the police department, an FIR was registered on May 29 at the Hadapsar police station under crime number 379/2026. This case falls under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 105, 123, 125, 275, and 3(5), as well as sections 65 (E), 68, 81, and 83 of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act of 1949.
The investigation revealed that the accused had illegally produced toxic country liquor, mixing it with harmful chemicals for transportation and distribution. They were aware that consuming this liquor could be fatal, yet they deliberately sold it, leading to multiple fatalities.
The order stated that the incident occurred due to the serious negligence and lack of oversight by the involved police officers. Following the circulation of news about this case on social media and various news outlets, the police department’s image has been tarnished, raising questions about the efficiency of the police system.
Utilizing the powers granted under the Mumbai Police (Education and Appeal) Rules of 1956 and the Mumbai Police Act of 1951, the three officers have been suspended with immediate effect. This action will remain in effect until the preliminary and departmental investigations are completed.
As per the order, the suspended officers will receive a subsistence allowance under the Maharashtra Civil Services Rules of 1981. They will also continue to receive benefits such as city allowance, house rent allowance, and dearness allowance as per regulations.
The police department has clarified that during the suspension period, the officers are not permitted to leave the headquarters without permission. Additionally, they are required to report daily to the Pune city police control room.
