New Delhi, July 21: The Cockroach People’s Party (CJP) has announced an escalation of its ongoing protests at Jantar Mantar, accusing the central government and Delhi police of mistreating demonstrators.
National spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka claimed in an interview that police resorted to baton charges during the protests, attempting to forcibly suppress a peaceful movement.
He expressed disbelief at such actions, alleging that police were instructed to use force against the protesters.
Ranka referenced a recent meeting with the government, stating that discussions lasted nearly five hours but yielded no concrete solutions. He emphasized that if the government genuinely wishes to engage in dialogue, it should come to the protest site and communicate directly with the demonstrators.
The primary demand of the party is the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Ranka asserted that protests will continue at Jantar Mantar until Pradhan resigns. He claimed that rather than weakening the movement, police actions would lead to increased participation, with more people arriving in Delhi to join the protests.
He also alleged that damage was inflicted on the protest site and that volunteers assisting the movement were assaulted.
Ranka stated, “Our protests will persist until our demands are met. We are continuously assessing the actions of the Delhi police and the alleged violence. A large number of people wanted to peacefully express their dissent at Jantar Mantar, but police actions have raised serious questions about the government’s attitude.”
