Protest in Delhi Demands CBI Probe in Ankita Bhandari Murder Case

New Delhi witnessed a protest at Jantar Mantar on Sunday, organised by the Uttarakhand Migrants’ Association of Metropolitan Delhi, demanding a CBI investigation and swift action against those responsible for the murder of Ankita Bhandari.

The 19-year-old receptionist was murdered in 2022, an incident that sparked widespread outrage in Uttarakhand.

A protester said, “We are here demanding a CBI probe in the Ankita Bhandari case. No matter who the VIP is, they must be punished. We want justice for Ankita Bhandari.”

Another participant remarked that recent revelations have taken the case in a new direction.

The protester added, “The crime happened in 2022, and following a whistleblower Urmila Sanawar’s disclosure, the name of a person called Gattu has emerged. The Dhami government is not cooperating, so we have come to the central government seeking help. We urge the Prime Minister and the Home Minister to order a CBI investigation. If the accused is guilty of this heinous crime, they must face the strictest punishment.”

One protester demanded capital punishment for the culprits, stating, “We demand the death penalty for Ankita Bhandari’s murderers. All VIPs, killers, and everyone involved in this case should be given the death sentence. Justice must be served.”

There were also allegations that crucial evidence had been destroyed.

The protester questioned, “All evidence was destroyed immediately after the crime. We want justice for Ankita Bhandari and the death penalty for all guilty. She was forced to provide special services to a VIP. She had mentioned this in chats with her friend. Now a whistleblower has revealed the VIP’s name, yet no action is being taken.”

Similar protests took place in Dehradun, where locals, several organisations, and political groups demanded a CBI probe and justice for the victim.

In recent days, there have been multiple protests across Uttarakhand demanding accountability and a thorough investigation into the murder case.

On 24 December 2025, renewed outrage erupted after television actress Urmila Sanawar made allegations related to the case. The incident concerns the rape and murder of Ankita Bhandari at the Vanantara Resort near Rishikesh.

During the initial investigation, a friend of Ankita had told the police that she was pressured to entertain and provide special services to a VIP guest.
