New Delhi, 3 January. India’s domestic cricket structure is notably strong. Players who perform well in the Test, One-Day, and T20 formats earn their places in the national team. The Ranji Trophy is played in the Test format, the Vijay Hazare Trophy in the One-Day format, and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in the T20 format. Here is a look at five young cricketers whose performances in these prestigious tournaments organized by BCCI are expected to draw attention in 2026.

The brightest name among young Indian players is left-handed opening batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Representing Bihar in domestic cricket, Suryavanshi is a member of India’s Under-19 team and also plays for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. The year 2025 was significant for him, as he scored runs consistently across IPL, India Under-19, and Bihar’s domestic teams in all formats. His performances have raised hopes of a bright future, making him a player to watch in 2026.

Another young talent to watch is 21-year-old wicketkeeper Kumar Kushagra, who plays domestic cricket for Jharkhand. Kushagra had a successful 2025, playing a key role in Jharkhand’s victory in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He was the third-highest run-scorer of the tournament, scoring 422 runs with four half-centuries in ten matches.

In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Kushagra scored 332 runs in five matches with two centuries and one half-century. His strong batting earned him a purchase by Delhi Capitals for ₹7.2 crore in IPL 2026. His performances in domestic cricket and IPL this year will be closely monitored.

24-year-old Priyansh Arya represents Delhi in domestic cricket and Punjab Kings in the IPL. Priyansh has already scored an IPL century and established himself as an opening batsman. He is striving to secure a place in the national team, making his 2026 performances in domestic cricket and IPL notable.

Right-arm fast bowler Anshul Kamboj plays domestic cricket for Haryana. After impressive displays domestically, he earned a chance to play for India against England last year. Although currently out of the national team, he continues to perform consistently in domestic cricket.

Kamboj played a crucial role in taking Haryana to the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, taking 21 wickets in 11 matches. In his career so far, he has taken 93 wickets in 31 first-class matches, 50 wickets in 29 List A matches, and 55 wickets in 41 T20 matches. He is part of CSK in the IPL, and selectors will keep an eye on him in 2026.

Another right-arm fast bowler, Yash Thakur, plays for Vidarbha in domestic cricket and is part of LSG in the IPL. The 27-year-old has experience in all three formats, with 86 wickets in 29 first-class matches, 72 in 48 List A matches, and 108 in 73 T20 matches. He has taken 25 wickets in 21 IPL matches. His performances in 2026 are expected to attract the attention of India’s selectors.
