Wayanad, June 27: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has described the alleged embezzlement of donations collected for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya as both tragic and shameful. She urged the government to conduct a thorough investigation, holding accountable not only those who reportedly misappropriated funds but also those entrusted with the security of the donations made by devotees.
Priyanka emphasized that millions across the country have contributed to the temple with faith and devotion, making it essential to ensure the safety of every rupee donated by the devotees.
“It is truly unfortunate that people have donated with good intentions, and it is the responsibility of those managing the funds to safeguard them,” she stated.
Labeling the allegations as disgraceful, the Congress leader insisted that this matter should not be dismissed as a minor incident and called for a credible and impartial inquiry.
She asserted that the government must fully investigate the situation, emphasizing that if women, the poor, and ordinary devotees have donated with faith and sacrifice, then the security of those funds must be guaranteed.
Priyanka pointed out that if money has been raised, there is also a duty to keep it secure.
She stressed that accountability should not be limited to identifying those directly involved in the alleged theft but should also examine whether there was any negligence in the system responsible for safeguarding the donations.
Priyanka Gandhi remarked that public trust must never be compromised, and those collecting and managing such donations owe complete transparency and accountability to the people.
In this context, senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Digvijay Singh, accused the temple-related donations and land transactions of being fraught with irregularities. He demanded that an FIR be filed against the trust’s former general secretary, Champat Rai, and member Anil Mishra, insisting that both should be arrested.
