Priyanka Chopra Jonas Praises Obsession, Highlights Breaking Barriers in Hollywood

Los Angeles, June 24: Actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas openly discussed her aspirations to become a producer and advance her career in the United States. She noted that barriers for new artists and filmmakers in Hollywood have significantly diminished compared to the past.

Citing the success of the low-budget horror film “Obsession,” Priyanka emphasized that new opportunities are emerging for talented individuals today.

Speaking at the Cannes Lions festival on Wednesday, she stated, “I believe that if you have a good idea, you can shoot it, upload it on YouTube, and it could become a film like ‘Obsession,’ which was recently released.”

She added, “This is an incredible time for those in the entertainment industry, as ideas are now your greatest asset.”

Reflecting on her early career, Priyanka recalled that the industry was not as accessible when she first entered. The actress, who has been building her career in Hollywood for over a decade, faced numerous challenges initially due to her lack of connections in the film world.

“My parents were doctors, so none of us knew how to navigate the film industry. When I started, it was a very limited field accessible only to a select few. If you wanted to enter film production, you had to decide which department you wanted to work in,” she explained.

Priyanka reminisced about being told that Indian cinema would never be as global as Hollywood because Indian films are not made in English.

“I was often told that Indian cinema would never reach the global stage like Hollywood because our films aren’t in English, and not everyone understands Hindi, Telugu, Marathi, or other Indian languages,” she said.

She established her production house to provide a platform for new filmmakers and creative individuals who have great ideas but lack the necessary resources or connections to break into the industry.

“I want to support new filmmakers with brilliant ideas who don’t have access to the opportunities that I can help them reach,” Priyanka stated.

Recently involved in streaming hits like “Citadel” and “Heads of State,” Priyanka also discussed her English-language career.

“I have worked with the best directors and actors in Hindi cinema. I’ve told many great stories and made films in various styles. However, I haven’t found the same diversity and opportunities in my English-language work in America and Hollywood,” she noted.

Priyanka believes that streaming platforms and changing audience habits during the COVID-19 pandemic have opened up new viewers for content worldwide. According to her, people are now embracing stories from different countries and languages more than ever, creating new possibilities in the global entertainment industry.
