Nashik, April 3: A significant ruling has emerged from the district court in Nashik, Maharashtra, regarding the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl in the Igatpuri taluka of Takhed Budruk. The court has sentenced the accused principal and a class teacher to prison and imposed fines.
The incident occurred on February 7, 2025, when the principal of the school, with the help of the class teacher, assaulted the minor. The Ghoti police arrested both individuals following the complaint.
In a case registered under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Additional District Sessions Judge P.V. Ghule delivered the verdict. The principal, Tukaram Govind Sable (53), and the class teacher, Gorakhnath Maruti Joshi (43), were found guilty.
The court sentenced Tukaram Sable to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹200,000 (with an additional one year of simple imprisonment if the fine is not paid). He also received seven years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 10 of the POCSO Act, along with a fine of ₹25,000, and five years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 8 of the POCSO Act, with another fine of ₹25,000.
Meanwhile, Gorakhnath Joshi was sentenced to six months in prison and fined ₹68,000 (with three months of rigorous imprisonment if the fine is not paid) under Section 21 of the POCSO Act.
It is important to note that during a mathematics class on February 7, 2025, Gorakhnath Joshi received a call from principal Tukaram Sable. Without explanation, Joshi told the 13-year-old victim that her grandmother was at Sable’s house and that he had summoned her there. Despite knowing that Sable lived outside the school premises, Joshi sent the victim alone to his house.
Upon arrival, the victim was assaulted. After returning to school, she informed Joshi about the incident, but he took no action regarding the abuse and did not assist her in filing a complaint.
