Controversy Surrounds Diljit Dosanjhs Film Punjab 95 in Lok Sabha Discussion

Mumbai, April 3: Diljit Dosanjh’s controversial film ‘Punjab 95’ has once again sparked discussions. The film was brought up in the Lok Sabha, where it was compared to Aditya Dhar’s film ‘Dhurandhar-2’.

AAP politician Gurmeet Singh Meet Hair raised questions about the film in Parliament. This video was shared by Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh on his account.

Originally scheduled for release in 2024, ‘Punjab 95’ is back in the spotlight. In the video, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hair states that the government is operating with double standards. He pointed out that while a film about human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra is being denied a release, films that propagate propaganda and depict attacks like 26/11 are freely released. Diljit Dosanjh shared this Lok Sabha video on his Instagram story.

The film ‘Punjab 95’ was supposed to be released last year, but various controversies have delayed its debut in theaters. The storyline addresses the truth about thousands of missing persons from Punjab, which has raised questions against the government. Some dialogues from the film were deemed controversial and removed by the censor board.

Last year, the censor board requested the removal of 127 scenes from the film. They also asked for the title to exclude ‘Punjab’ and for references to the Punjab police to be replaced simply with ‘police’. The board only permitted the use of the term ‘police’. Director Honey Trehan had previously criticized the censor board, stating that with so many cuts, the film would not survive, and if such coercion continued, he would remove his name from the project. Currently, no new release date for the film has been announced.
