Kolkata, April 19: As the campaigning heats up for the upcoming two phases of the West Bengal Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address four rallies in the state this Sunday. All these rallies will take place in tribal-dominated constituencies.
The Prime Minister’s first rally will be held in Barjora, Bankura district, at 11 AM. This will be followed by three more rallies: one in Purulia at 12:45 PM, another in Jhargram at 2:45 PM, and finally, a rally in Medinipur, West Midnapore district, at 4:30 PM.
A member of the state committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) indicated that the Prime Minister is likely to focus on issues affecting tribal communities in his speeches. He will highlight how the Trinamool Congress-led government has ignored the demands of these communities for the past 15 years.
The committee member also noted that Modi may address the recent controversy surrounding the alleged disrespect towards President Droupadi Murmu. This issue arose during her visit to West Bengal for an international seminar focused on the Santhal community.
Additionally, the Prime Minister is expected to launch a sharp attack on the Trinamool Congress regarding their attempts to block the ‘Women’s Reservation (Amendment) Bill’ in collaboration with other opposition parties.
Political tensions are already escalating in the state. This follows the Prime Minister’s address to the nation on Saturday night, where he expressed regret over the failure of a constitutional amendment bill aimed at implementing reservations for women in Parliament and state assemblies, apologizing to the women of India.
In response, the Trinamool Congress issued a statement claiming that the Prime Minister’s address was filled with self-pity and theatrics. The party accused him of trying to use women’s political representation as a tool to distract from the ongoing delimitation controversy.
