On Thursday morning, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in Delhi to participate in the meeting. At Bharat Mandapam, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar formally welcomed the foreign ministers from around the globe. While chairing the meeting, Jaishankar highlighted India’s clear stance on global issues.

He stated, “Peace and security are at the center of the global order.” He emphasized that recent conflicts have underscored the importance of dialogue and diplomacy. In this complex and uncertain world, discussions should advance towards sustainable development while maintaining principles of equality and shared but differentiated responsibilities. Dr. Jaishankar noted that technological advancements are reshaping the global landscape and can be utilized for good governance and inclusive development. He also mentioned the shared interest in strengthening cooperation against terrorism.

Referring to the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, Minister Jaishankar pointed out that disruptions in maritime routes and threats to energy infrastructure can impact global economic stability. In such times, secure and uninterrupted maritime flow is crucial.

The meeting included foreign ministers from BRICS countries and heads of delegations from member and partner nations. This year’s theme, under India’s presidency, is “Building Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainable Development.” This theme is inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s humanity-first and people-centered approach.
