President and Vice President Express Grief Over Nana Patekars Passing, Call It a Major Loss for Indian Cinema

New Delhi, October 8 (Daily Kiran) : President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan have expressed their sorrow over the passing of celebrated actor Nana Patekar. In a statement, President Murmu described his death as a significant loss for Indian cinema. She noted that Patekar portrayed characters that left a lasting impression on audiences.

The President’s office shared a message on the social media platform X, stating, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of legendary actor Nana Patekar. Through his powerful and moving performances, he brought to life a wide range of human experiences. The characters he played had a profound impact on people’s hearts and minds. His commitment to social service and concern for the marginalized were evident in his work. His passing is a great loss to Indian cinema. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and fans.”

Vice President Radhakrishnan also conveyed his condolences on X, referring to Patekar as a versatile and exceptionally talented artist. He emphasized the depth, sensitivity, and authenticity that Patekar brought to every role. “His invaluable contributions to Indian cinema will always be remembered. His remarkable acting will continue to inspire future generations of film lovers and remain in their hearts. During this time of grief, I express my deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and countless fans,” he stated.

Nana Patekar passed away on Thursday morning at the age of 75. Reports indicate that he was found unconscious at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa, and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Dr. Shekhar Salkar, head of oncology at Manipal Hospital in Goa, revealed in an interview that Patekar was brought to the hospital around 4:20 to 4:35 AM. “Given his condition, we attempted CPR. Our team reached his home at 4:18 AM and began CPR there, as he was unresponsive. He was brought to the hospital while CPR was ongoing, but he had already passed away by then,” Dr. Salkar explained.

Patekar was not only a successful actor but also a writer, filmmaker, and director. He made his entry into Hindi cinema in 1978 with the drama film “Gaman.” He later acted in Marathi films and made a notable return to Hindi cinema in 1989 with the film “Parinda,” where he played a gangster’s negative role. He stepped into directing with the film “Prahaar: The Final Attack” in 1994.
