Chennai, May 9: The political landscape in Tamil Nadu remains uncertain as AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) congratulated all candidates and parties that emerged victorious in the 17th Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
In a statement released on Saturday, Palaniswami extended his best wishes to the party that will ultimately form the government in Tamil Nadu. His remarks come amid heightened political activity and maneuvering following a hung assembly result.
Voting for all 234 assembly seats took place in a single phase on April 23. The election witnessed a fierce four-way contest among the DMK alliance, the AIADMK alliance, the Naam Tamilar Katchi, and the Tamilaga Vetrri Katchi (TVK) led by actor Vijay.
Vijay’s TVK emerged as the largest party, winning 108 seats, and is currently working to secure the majority needed to form the government. The Congress and leftist parties have already pledged their support to TVK, but the party is still awaiting formal backing from the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK).
VCK has announced that its president, Thol Thirumavalavan, will issue an official statement regarding support for TVK on Saturday evening. Political analysts believe this announcement could determine whether Vijay will comfortably surpass the majority mark in the 234-member assembly.
Meanwhile, a new controversy has arisen. AMMK General Secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran has filed a complaint alleging that a fake letter supporting TVK was submitted in the name of AMMK MLA Kamaraj.
Political experts suggest that if Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar decides to thoroughly investigate the alleged ‘horse trading’ and fake support letters, the process of forming a government in Tamil Nadu could face delays.
There is also speculation that the governor may instruct supporting legislators to personally confirm their support letters before inviting any party to form the government.
As behind-the-scenes negotiations continue and political tensions rise, the suspense over who will lead the next government in Tamil Nadu remains palpable.
