New Delhi, February 14: A political uproar has erupted in Malegaon, Maharashtra, following the display of a portrait of Tipu Sultan in the Deputy Mayor’s office. This act has sparked a flurry of accusations and counter-accusations among political parties.

In this context, BJP leader R.P. Singh condemned the honoring of figures like Tipu Sultan, labeling it as both disgraceful and concerning.

Speaking to reporters, Singh expressed his dismay at the admiration some individuals show towards historical figures such as Tipu Sultan and Aurangzeb, calling it unfortunate. He stated, “Even today, controversial figures are being honored in India. It is alarming that invaders are being worshipped within the country.”

R.P. Singh emphasized that those in public office must recognize their responsibility to uphold the Constitution. He noted that displaying such symbols in their offices sends a troubling message and can incite unnecessary disputes within society.

Regarding the ‘Seva Teerth’ and ‘Kartavya Bhavan’, he remarked that those who are emotionally attached to symbols of British colonial architecture only refer to the North Block and South Block. He clarified that these structures were built during British rule, while initiatives like ‘Seva Teerth’ and ‘Kartavya Bhavan’ are aimed at serving the 1.4 billion people of India. He views these efforts as a new beginning for policy-making in the national interest, describing it as a significant and welcome decision made post-independence, stating, “Better late than never.”

Additionally, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has undergone a change of address. On February 13, the final cabinet meeting took place in the South Block, where crucial proposals were approved. The government believes these steps will help shift away from colonial symbols and strengthen governance in line with modern Indian sentiments. The ‘Seva Teerth’ is equipped with modern facilities, digital integration, and improved coordination, which will aid in achieving the nation’s progress and development goals.
