Chennai, July 28: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall in several parts of Tamil Nadu over the next three days. According to the weather department, heavy rains are expected in the Nilgiri, Coimbatore, and Theni districts by the end of the week.
The IMD reported that this weather change is due to a weak trough forming at lower atmospheric levels along the Tamil Nadu coast.
On Tuesday, moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and strong winds is likely in northern coastal Tamil Nadu, the districts of the Western Ghats, and a few areas in Puducherry.
Similar weather conditions are expected in parts of the Western Ghats on Wednesday and Thursday, with moderate rainfall and thunderstorms possible in various locations. Rainfall activities are anticipated to intensify starting July 30.
The IMD has issued a forecast for heavy rainfall in different areas of the Nilgiri district on July 30, while moderate rainfall is expected in other districts of the Western Ghats. Additionally, light rain may occur in various parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
On July 31, heavy rainfall is likely in some areas of Coimbatore, Nilgiri, and Theni districts. Moderate rainfall is expected in other districts of the Western Ghats, while light rain may occur in different parts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
According to the forecast, rainfall will continue on August 1, with heavy rain expected again in some areas of Coimbatore, Nilgiri, and Theni districts. Moderate rainfall may occur in interior Tamil Nadu, northern coastal districts, Puducherry, and Karaikal, while light rain is anticipated in other parts of the state.
The IMD also indicated that moderate rainfall is likely to persist in the districts of the Western Ghats and northern coastal Tamil Nadu, while light rain may occur in other areas of the state.
Furthermore, the weather department stated that there is no significant change expected in the maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry until July 31. However, some areas may experience maximum temperatures 2 to 4 degrees Celsius above normal, while the rest of the state will see temperatures around normal levels.
For Chennai, the IMD has forecasted partly cloudy skies for Tuesday and Wednesday. Light rain with thunderstorms may occur in some areas of the city. During this period, maximum temperatures are expected to range between 38 and 39 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures will be between 29 and 30 degrees Celsius.
