
Pune, March 23: In a significant move against illegal sand transport, police in Indapur, Pune district, have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against five individuals. The authorities seized two tipper trucks and initiated further investigations.
The operation took place around midnight on March 22-23 along the Pune-Solapur Highway, near Gokul Hotel in Hingangaon village. Police received tips about unauthorized sand excavation and transport occurring in the area. Upon arrival, they confiscated the two vehicles, recovering approximately four brass of sand. The estimated value of the seized materials is around ₹14.24 lakh.
The accused include Vishal Ramdas Jadhav (25, resident of Tambave), Mangesh Mahadev Khatke (resident of Sapthane), Krishna Sandipan Paithane (28, resident of Sapthane), Sandeep Kashinath Kuhade (resident of Vasu Shegaon), and Vishal Jagatap (resident of Shah, Indapur). According to police reports, the suspects were illegally extracting sand from a field in the Indapur region.
Illegal sand mining and transport not only violate the law but also pose serious environmental threats. Such activities can degrade soil fertility, alter river and field ecosystems, and jeopardize local community safety.
Authorities have stated that strict action will be taken against these offenders, and continuous monitoring will be implemented to curb illegal sand trafficking.
