Police Constable Commits Suicide in Patna Police Lines

Patna, July 31 – A police constable-driver, Ashok Kumar Singh, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself late Wednesday night in the Police Lines located under the jurisdiction of Buddha Colony police station in Patna. Singh was originally a resident of Bhojpur district.

Upon receiving information about the incident, DSP Law and Order-1 Krishna Murari Prasad and the Buddha Colony police reached the spot. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was also called in. According to the DSP, the body was found hanging from a fan, and prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide. The police are investigating the matter from all possible angles.

Ashok Kumar Singh had two sons and was staying in the Police Lines with his elder son, Ajit Kumar. On the night of the incident, Ajit was out for some work, and Ashok’s wife had gone to their home two days earlier. Alone in the house, Ashok reportedly made a noose using a fan and took his own life.

According to police sources, Ajit got married in February 2024. Ashok’s younger son Ranjit had a love marriage two months ago without his father’s consent. Police say Ashok was unhappy with his younger son’s marriage.
