Call for CID Investigation into Actor Rahul Banerjees Death

Kolkata, April 6: The Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, announced on Monday that he will approach Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Chandra Majhi to request a CID investigation into the death of Bengali actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee.

Speaking to the media, Adhikari stated, “A complaint has been filed at the Talsari Coastal Police Station. I have received a copy of it. I will speak to Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Chandra Majhi today to ensure that the state CID investigates this case. Leena Gangopadhyay is attempting to protect those involved.”

Adhikari pointed out that Leena Gangopadhyay is closely associated with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and serves as the chairperson of the State Women’s Commission. He accused the police of trying to suppress the case, asserting that Mamata’s police would take no action.

It is noteworthy that Leena Gangopadhyay holds the position of chairperson of the State Women’s Commission.

The BJP leader further remarked, “Just as Mamata Banerjee protected the owner of a momo company during the Anandpur fire incident, she is now trying to shield Gangopadhyay.”

In response, Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh countered, “Suvendu Adhikari’s bodyguard mysteriously died, and that case should be thoroughly investigated first. Only then should he demand an inquiry into this matter. In the RG Kar case, the accused was arrested within 24 hours. The West Bengal government is the most responsive, and immediate action is taken here.”

Regarding the demand for an investigation by the Odisha CID, Ghosh commented, “The police in Odisha are not making arrests in rape cases. Incidents have occurred along the coast. The West Bengal police are competent and are conducting an investigation. Rahul’s death is tragic. If there is negligence, action should be taken, but politics should not be involved.”

It is reported that the late actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee’s wife, Priyanka Sarkar, has filed complaints at the Regent Park police station in Kolkata and the Talsari police station in Odisha. She has lodged an FIR against five individuals associated with the production company linked to the shooting, including Shail Banerjee, Leena Gangopadhyay, director Subhashish Mandal, floor executive producer Shantanu Nandi, and manager Chandrashekhar Chakraborty.

In protest of this incident, artists and technicians from the Bengali film and television industry have called for an indefinite strike starting Tuesday.

There are now demands for ambulances to be mandatory at every shooting location. Artists and crew members are also calling for enhanced safety measures.

The 42-year-old actor Rahul tragically lost his life on March 29 while shooting for the TV series ‘Bhole Baba Par Karega’ when he entered the water at Talsari beach and was caught by the tide. This unfortunate incident has left the entire Bengali film and television industry in shock.
