
Ballia, February 23: In a significant operation, police in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, apprehended a notorious cattle smuggler with a bounty of ₹25,000 during an encounter.
According to police officials, a checking operation was underway late Sunday night near the Hussainabad intersection. During this operation, officers signaled a suspicious motorcyclist to stop, but he attempted to flee. After a brief chase, the suspect’s motorcycle skidded and fell. Realizing he was surrounded by police, the criminal opened fire on the police team.
In self-defense, the police returned fire, injuring the suspect in his right leg, leading to his capture at the scene. The accused identified himself as Bablu Bat. Authorities confirmed he was a wanted criminal with a history of offenses, including cattle smuggling.
During the search, police recovered a firearm and ammunition from Bablu Bat. Officials stated that he has multiple criminal cases registered against him and has been actively involved in cattle smuggling activities.
The injured suspect was promptly transported to the district hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. Police indicated that further legal proceedings are underway, and a detailed investigation is ongoing.
Police officials mentioned that they plan to interrogate Bablu Bat to apprehend his accomplices, and a team is being formed for this purpose. They aim to uncover who has been assisting him in his criminal activities.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Jai Shankar Mishra noted that the police had been searching for the suspect for some time. Following a tip-off, the checking operation was conducted at Hussainabad, leading to his arrest. Authorities are investigating the source of his weapons and his supply routes.
The police officer also revealed that the suspect has confessed to involvement in several criminal incidents.
