Lucknow, September 1: In a swift response to the tragic firecracker factory explosion in Kaushambi district, Uttar Pradesh, police have intensified their efforts. Late Monday night, a confrontation occurred between the Special Operations Group (SOG) and local police with the main accused, Naushad Ali. During the encounter, Naushad sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was subsequently arrested.
The incident took place at a firecracker factory in the Manori market area, where a massive fire broke out, leading to multiple explosions. At least 11 people lost their lives, and five others were injured. Following the incident, police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against six suspects. Additionally, five police officers have faced disciplinary action for negligence.
CO Shivank Singh stated, “The fire incident occurred at a firecracker factory yesterday. Teams were formed to apprehend the main accused. Around 4 AM, we received a tip-off that he was attempting to flee. The police quickly arrived at the scene and cordoned off the area. The accused fired upon the police, resulting in a gunshot wound to his leg. During interrogation, he identified himself as Naushad. He is currently receiving medical treatment, and efforts to capture the remaining suspects are ongoing.”
In a press release, police confirmed that emergency response teams were dispatched immediately to the explosion site to conduct rescue operations. Following the FIR, two individuals, Shabana, wife of Shakeel, and Saina, daughter of Shakeel, were taken into custody for questioning.
In light of this incident, the Superintendent of Police has suspended several officers for gross negligence, including the officer in charge of the Pipri police station, Vikas Singh, and sub-inspectors Amit Dwivedi and Manish Pal.
District Magistrate Amit Pal Sharma reported that teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were deployed to assist with rescue and relief efforts.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep sorrow over the incident and directed officials to expedite rescue operations and ensure proper medical treatment for the injured. He also announced a compensation of ₹200,000 for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured.
