PM Modis Successful Visit to Sweden: Six Key Achievements Highlighted by the Ministry of External Affairs

Gothenburg, May 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has completed the third phase of his successful visit to Sweden as part of a tour across five countries. He is now heading to Norway. The Ministry of External Affairs has released a list of six significant outcomes from this Nordic visit.

The first outcome highlighted by the Ministry is the elevation of India-Sweden relations to a strategic partnership level. This includes the adoption of a “Joint Statement” and a “Joint Action Plan (2026-2030).” This initiative aims to strengthen ties between the two nations in economic and security aspects, promoting cooperation under four main pillars: strategic dialogue for stability and security, next-generation economic partnership, emerging technologies and reliable connectivity, and “Shaping Tomorrow Together.” It will enhance mutual collaboration in areas related to economy, technology, connectivity, and sustainability.

The second major outcome of PM Modi’s visit is the launch of the “India-Sweden Joint Innovation Partnership 2.0.” This initiative will establish a virtual India-Sweden Joint Science and Technology Center (ISJSTC). It will also strengthen collaboration in emerging technologies such as AI, 6G, quantum computing, sustainable mining, critical minerals, space, and life sciences. Additionally, existing cooperation in renewable energy, battery and energy storage, energy transmission, smart grid technologies, smart cities, and robust water systems will be advanced.

The third key result of PM Modi’s visit is the support for the joint development of the “India-Sweden Technology and Artificial Intelligence Corridor (SITAC).” This aims to enhance future-oriented AI partnerships, increase collaboration in technology, artificial intelligence, innovation, and digital transformation, and deepen partnerships related to advanced technologies involving industry, startups, and research.

The fourth outcome is the goal to double bilateral economic exchanges, trade, and investment over the next five years. This aims to create new opportunities for trade and industry, promote the “Make in India” initiative, strengthen trade facilitation and fast-track mechanisms, and maintain regular discussions on intellectual property rights.

The fifth outcome focuses on the development of an “India-Sweden SME and Startup Platform.” This initiative aims to promote the startup and innovation ecosystem, creating more job opportunities, especially for youth in both countries, thereby strengthening the partnership.

Finally, the sixth outcome is the launch of the “Tagore-Sweden” lecture series under the theme “Development and Heritage.” This initiative aims to enhance cultural and intellectual ties between India and Sweden, promoting India’s “soft power” while fostering mutual relations between the peoples of both nations.

Earlier on Sunday, PM Modi, along with his Swedish counterpart Ulf Kristersson and Ursula von der Leyen, addressed the prestigious “European Roundtable for Industry.” PM Modi and Kristersson also engaged in delegation-level bilateral talks to further strengthen India-Sweden relations.
