New Delhi, September 3: On the occasion of the birth centenary of the legendary actor Uttam Kumar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid tribute to him. PM Modi stated that Uttam Kumar’s timeless performances connect people across generations.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Prime Minister Modi wrote, “Uttam Kumar, a towering artist whose evergreen acting still unites different generations. I pay my respects on his birth centenary.”
During this tribute, PM Modi also shared his remarks from the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program held last Sunday (August 30), where he remembered Uttam Kumar in its 137th episode.
He noted, “Uttam Kumar was a versatile actor who has embedded himself in the hearts of people through his performances. Film enthusiasts believe that Satyajit Ray wrote the entire script for ‘Nayak – The Hero’ with Uttam Kumar in mind. Ray mentioned that he possessed both prestige and remarkable emotional depth. He worked hard to bring characters to life.”
PM Modi further emphasized, “Uttam Kumar’s life teaches us the importance of perseverance. His early films did not fare well, but he remained focused on his craft. This dedication led him to great heights.”
Recalling a personal experience, PM Modi shared, “I remember passing by Uttam Kumar’s house during a roadshow in Kolkata. A person there gifted me a picture of him. Once again, I pay tribute to the great Uttam Kumar. He will always reign in our hearts.”
