Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Somnath, Gujarat, on Saturday to participate in the ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parv’ celebrations. During his visit, he performed rituals at the historic Somnath temple. In the evening, citizens across the country will witness a spectacular drone show showcasing the temple’s rich 1000-year history within the temple premises.
Grand Festivities Across Somnath
The Somnath Swabhiman Parv has transformed the temple town with grand decorations and cultural events. Devotees and visitors from Gujarat and various parts of India have gathered to take part in the festival, which will continue until January 11. The atmosphere is vibrant, comparable to the festive spirit of Diwali, with a large turnout of people arriving through special trains from different cities.
Inclusive Spirit of Somnath and National Heritage
BJP MLA Aniruddha Dave emphasized that the temple of Lord Mahadev is open to all, urging people to visit without hesitation. He highlighted that those reluctant to come often oppose the ancient Sanatan traditions and ideology. Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, policies promote unity and satisfaction among all communities. “Mahadev belongs to everyone,” he said, adding that the ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ approach ensures inclusiveness. He recalled that even during the construction of the Ram temple, invitations were extended to all. The Sanatan tradition, he said, is dedicated to the welfare of the world.
He also noted that Lord Somnath has remained deeply rooted in people’s hearts despite repeated attempts by invaders to destroy the sacred site. Although some urban extremists may still try, the Somnath corridor has received robust support under Prime Minister Modi’s grand development initiatives aimed at restoring the temple’s ancient heritage.
Cultural Highlights and Upcoming Events
BJP leader Prashant shared that the Somnath Swabhiman Mahotsav started on January 8 with various cultural programmes, including a procession of Naga sadhus and a unique chariot journey by Naga babas, held for the first time in Somnath. Prime Minister Modi will visit the temple for darshan and attend a meeting of the Somnath Temple Trust. A special drone show will present the temple’s millennium-long history. On Sunday at 10 am, the Prime Minister will address the Shaurya Sabha, marking this festival as a source of national pride.
The celebrations have drawn large crowds from across India, making Somnath a focal point of cultural and spiritual unity during these days.
