
Ahmedabad, March 13: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) successfully thwarted a significant smuggling attempt at Ahmedabad Airport. Two passengers were apprehended while attempting to carry undeclared foreign currency. The seized amount is estimated to be around ₹64.56 lakhs.
According to reports, during the screening of hand baggage in the departure area, CISF personnel intercepted two travelers who were concealing a large sum of foreign currency (in dollars) intended for international travel. The investigation revealed that this currency was valued at approximately ₹64.56 lakhs and had not been declared.
CISF officials promptly informed customs authorities about the incident. The customs officials took both passengers and the seized currency into custody and initiated further legal proceedings.
On Friday, CISF shared the news on their official social media account, stating that they had successfully intercepted a major smuggling attempt at Ahmedabad Airport, seizing ₹64.56 lakhs in foreign currency.
They reported, “CISF personnel at Ahmedabad Airport stopped two passengers during hand baggage screening. They possessed a significant amount of undeclared foreign currency (in dollars) valued at approximately ₹64.56 lakhs. Customs authorities were immediately notified. After a detailed investigation, the passengers were handed over to the customs department for necessary action regarding the seized currency.”
It is noteworthy that several smuggling cases have emerged via air routes. Smugglers often attempt to cleverly conceal gold, cash, or drugs within various items. However, the vigilance of CISF and checking staff at all airports has led to swift actions that thwart the plans of smugglers.
