Guwahati, March 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated development projects worth approximately ₹19,480 crores in Guwahati, Assam, on Friday. He also laid the foundation for several initiatives aimed at enhancing the region’s infrastructure.
During a large public gathering, PM Modi extended his heartfelt greetings to the people of Guwahati. He acknowledged the farmers from across the country and the workers in the tea gardens.
Expressing gratitude for being present on the sacred land of Maa Kamakhya just before the Navratri festival, he stated, “I am fortunate to visit this holy site right before the start of Navratri.” He highlighted that the blessings of Maa Kamakhya have facilitated the inauguration and foundation-laying of these significant development projects.
PM Modi emphasized that Assam is set to benefit from a variety of projects, including those aimed at making the energy sector self-reliant and enhancing the travel experience for visitors. He noted that Assam plays a crucial role in fulfilling the country’s renewable energy commitments.
The Lower Kopili Hydro Power Project, he mentioned, will not only benefit Assam but the entire Northeast region. He stressed that these multi-crore projects are creating new job opportunities for the youth of Assam and promoting the state’s development. He pointed out that the current ‘double-engine government’ is characterized by its sensitivity and good governance.
The Prime Minister reiterated that the development of every region and community is a priority for the government. In this spirit, a significant initiative for workers in Assam’s tea gardens was announced. He acknowledged that it is their hard work that has strengthened Assam’s global identity, with the aroma of their tea becoming synonymous with India.
He assured that the current government is providing both respect and support to these workers. PM Modi congratulated Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his entire team for their commendable efforts for families associated with tea gardens. He added that the Assam government is now working to rectify historical injustices, ensuring that these families receive their own land and have a clear path to secure housing. This initiative will particularly benefit women living in tea gardens.
PM Modi expressed his desire for the children of tea garden workers to receive quality education and advance in life, stating that the current government has made all necessary facilities available for this purpose.
