Guwahati, March 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation for projects worth over ₹4,570 crores in Kokrajhar, Assam, via video conferencing. He also flagged off three new train services.
During his address, PM Modi expressed regret for not being able to visit Kokrajhar due to bad weather. “I had intended to come to you directly, but I had to land in Guwahati. From here, I am connecting with you,” he said.
He emphasized that the BJP-NDA double-engine government is dedicated to preserving Assam’s heritage and fostering rapid development. Today’s event marks the launch of projects exceeding ₹4,500 crores aimed at enhancing the region’s infrastructure. Over ₹1,100 crores will be allocated for road development in Bodoland, strengthening Assam’s road connectivity through the ‘Assam Mala Campaign’ Phase 3.
Earlier, PM Modi initiated a major road infrastructure project, ‘Assam Mala 3.0’, costing over ₹3,200 crores. This initiative will construct more than 900 kilometers of roads across Assam to improve inter-state connectivity and strengthen coordination between national and rural roads.
He also laid the foundation for six infrastructure projects in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTC), including four flyovers and two bridges, with an investment of around ₹1,100 crores. These projects aim to reduce traffic congestion in Kokrajhar district and enhance connectivity, tourism, agriculture, healthcare, and rural transport. Additionally, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for a periodic repair workshop in Bashbari, Kokrajhar.
Furthermore, he flagged off three new rail services aimed at improving connectivity in Assam and the northeastern region. These include the Kamakhya-Charlapalli Amrit Bharat Express, which will provide direct rail connectivity between the Northeast and South India, the Guwahati-New Jalpaiguri Express to enhance links between Assam and West Bengal, and the Narangi-Agartala Express to facilitate interstate travel for passengers, traders, and tourists between Assam and Tripura.
