New Delhi, April 14: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway on Tuesday. During the event, he extended his best wishes to the citizens and discussed the development of Uttarakhand, connectivity, social justice, and women’s empowerment.
Speaking about the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor, the Prime Minister emphasized that such corridors are not merely roads; they open new avenues for development. They pave the way for new businesses, industries, warehouses, and factories. This corridor is expected to transform the entire region and create new opportunities for the people.
In his opening remarks, the Prime Minister noted the festive spirit across the country and the excitement of the New Year. He conveyed heartfelt greetings for Baisakhi, Bohag Bihu, and Puthandu to all citizens.
The Prime Minister expressed that his earlier statement, made after visiting Baba Kedarnath, about this decade being Uttarakhand’s decade, is now becoming a reality. He expressed happiness that the policies of the “double-engine government” and the hard work of the state’s people are propelling Uttarakhand towards rapid development and stronger connectivity. He stated that the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway project will accelerate this progress and give new momentum to the state’s development.
He also highlighted that Uttarakhand has entered its 26th year since its establishment, making the inauguration of this expressway a significant achievement at this milestone.
Referencing Ambedkar Jayanti, the Prime Minister paid homage to B.R. Ambedkar, noting that his life was dedicated to delivering justice to the poor, marginalized, and oppressed. He mentioned that the government’s decisions and policies over the past decade have restored the dignity of the Constitution.
The Prime Minister stated that after the abrogation of Article 370, the Constitution is now fully implemented across the country. He also pointed out that Maoism and Naxalism have been eradicated in several districts, where the spirit of the Constitution is now being upheld.
He discussed the need for a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), stating that it is a constitutional expectation. Uttarakhand has taken steps in this direction, setting an example for the entire nation.
Linking social justice to balanced development, the Prime Minister asserted that the government is working to ensure that facilities reach every poor and marginalized individual. He noted that Baba Saheb Ambedkar was a strong advocate for modern infrastructure and industrialization, and the government is actively pursuing these goals.
On women’s empowerment, the Prime Minister mentioned the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’, highlighting that after four decades, Parliament has passed this law, ensuring 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. He welcomed the support from all political parties for this initiative.
He stressed that there should be no further delay in implementing this law. With Lok Sabha elections scheduled for 2029, he urged that this reservation should be in place before then, reflecting the spirit of the nation and the aspirations of women.
The Prime Minister announced that a special discussion on this topic is set to take place in Parliament starting April 16. He appealed to all political parties to collaborate on this crucial matter concerning women’s rights.
PM Modi revealed that he has written a letter to all women in the country, inviting them to be part of this historic initiative. He expressed confidence that mothers and sisters across the nation would read this letter and participate in the campaign.
He urged all parties in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand to support the proposed amendments to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam and assist in securing rights for half of the country’s population by 2029.
