Aizawl, September 13 (Patrika English News): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over ₹9,000 crore in Mizoram. The highlight was the Bairabi–Sairang railway line, built at a cost of ₹8,070 crore, which for the first time connects the state capital Aizawl to the Indian Railways network.
Due to bad weather, the Prime Minister addressed the public virtually from Lengpui Airport, while Governor V. K. Singh, Chief Minister Lalduhama, and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw attended the ceremony at Lammual Ground in Aizawl.
Calling the day “historic not just for Mizoram but for the entire country,” Modi said the completion of the railway line despite difficult geographical challenges reflected “determination and collective resolve.” He added that the project will boost employment, tourism, education, culture, and economic ties.
Direct Rail Links to Major Cities
The Prime Minister also flagged off three new express trains, giving Aizawl direct connectivity to Delhi, Guwahati, and Kolkata.
“For the first time, a Rajdhani Express will run from Sairang to Delhi. This will not only reduce distance but also bring hearts closer,” he said.
Role of Mizoram in Nation-Building
Modi recalled Mizoram’s contributions to India’s freedom movement and nation-building, praising the Mizo community’s traditions of sacrifice, service, and courage. He said Mizoram is central to India’s “Act East Policy” and the emerging “North East Economic Corridor,” describing the Northeast as “the new engine of India’s growth.”
Concluding his address, the Prime Minister bowed to Pathian, the traditional Mizo deity, and said: “Even though I could not be physically present, I feel your love and blessings from here. Our hearts have always been connected.”
