
New Delhi, July 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and several prominent leaders, paid tribute to Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak on his birth anniversary. PM Modi remarked that Tilak, a great hero of India’s freedom struggle, ignited the spirit of nationalism and inspired generations towards social service.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, PM Modi stated, “Tributes to Lokmanya Tilak on his birth anniversary. As a great hero of India’s freedom struggle, he instilled the spirit of nationalism and motivated generations towards social service. His efforts to popularize our culture and promote brotherhood were equally inspiring. His writings instilled new confidence and a sense of pride among the people.”
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh shared on ‘X’, “On the birth anniversary of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, I bow to him with utmost respect. His immortal declaration, ‘Swaraj is my birthright, and I shall have it,’ became a mantra that awakened the consciousness of freedom and nationalism in millions of Indians. His unwavering love for the nation, firm resolve for Swaraj, and emphasis on Swadeshi will continue to inspire future generations towards national service.”
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah noted that Lokmanya Tilak was one of the leading figures in the freedom struggle who organized and inspired the youth while fighting for the rights of the native language, Swadeshi, and indigenous culture throughout his life.
He wrote, “‘Swaraj is my birthright, and I shall have it’ shook the consciousness of the entire nation and spread the spirit of freedom to every citizen. Through events like Ganesh Chaturthi and the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, he accomplished unprecedented work in national awakening. His timeless work ‘Gita Rahasya’ continues to inspire us to remain steadfast on the path of duty. On the birth anniversary of the symbol of public service and nationalism, I bow to Tilak Maharaj with utmost respect.”
Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda described Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak as a prominent leader of the Indian freedom struggle, a strong advocate for complete Swaraj, and a symbol of unwavering patriotism.
He paid homage to Tilak, stating, “Through the Swadeshi movement, promotion of education, and continuous activism, Lokmanya Tilak played a significant role in strengthening national consciousness. His fearless personality, nationalist journalism, and efforts for public awareness inspired millions of Indians to participate in the freedom movement. His belief that the nation comes first, along with his indomitable courage, thoughtfulness, and dedicated work ethic, continues to inspire every Indian to serve the motherland, build the nation, and lead a life of duty.”
