PM Modi Highlights Indias Potential as a Global Content Hub After Meeting with Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos

New Delhi, August 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos on Wednesday, emphasizing the immense potential of India’s media and entertainment sector. He stated that the country’s rich storytelling tradition and creative talent could position India as a leading center for global content production.

Sharing details of the meeting on the social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, “It was a pleasure to meet Ted Sarandos. We discussed the vast possibilities within India’s media and entertainment sector. Our rich storytelling tradition and extraordinary creative talent can play a crucial role in making our country a hub for global content creation.”

Earlier, Sarandos met with PM Modi to discuss the global impact of Indian stories. During this meeting, Netflix reaffirmed its commitment to India’s creative economy by announcing the ‘Netflix India Storytelling Initiative.’

This initiative will see Netflix forming strategic partnerships with leading Indian institutions to provide training and skills aligned with industry needs for a new generation of talented creators in animation, visual effects (VFX), gaming, and comics.

Sarandos noted that India has always been one of the world’s great storytelling nations. Over the past decade, Indian narratives have resonated deeply with audiences not only in the country but globally. He mentioned that Netflix’s largest investments will be directed towards those who will bring the next generation of Indian stories to the world.

He added that the ‘Netflix India Storytelling Initiative’ is part of the company’s long-term commitment to strengthening India’s creative ecosystem and creating new opportunities for emerging creators.

In the first phase of the initiative, Netflix will collaborate with the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) to develop industry-oriented courses related to visual effects and media technology. Additionally, scholarships will be offered to Indian students for programs in interactive comics, character animation, virtual art, e-sports, and gaming management.

In the second phase, Netflix will work with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) to train audio description writers and voice professionals, aiming to make films and web series more accessible for individuals with disabilities.
