PM Modi Calls Economic Survey a True Reflection of India’s Reform Momentum

New Delhi: The Economic Survey 2026 was presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament on Thursday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the survey as a comprehensive portrayal of India’s reform pace amid a challenging global environment.

Sharing the Finance Minister’s post on the social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi said the Economic Survey offers a broad picture of India’s reform journey, highlighting continuous progress despite global uncertainties.

He added that the survey underscores strong and broad-based economic fundamentals, sustained growth momentum, and the growing role of innovation, entrepreneurship, and infrastructure in nation-building. It emphasises inclusive development, focusing on farmers, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), youth employment, and social welfare.

The survey also lays out a roadmap to strengthen manufacturing, enhance productivity, and accelerate India’s progress towards becoming a developed nation, the Prime Minister noted.

He further stated that insights from the survey will guide informed policymaking and bolster confidence in India’s economic future.

Earlier, Finance Minister Sitharaman remarked that India remains a bright spot globally, moving steadily with resilience despite worldwide instability.

In her post on X, she highlighted that despite global uncertainties, the Indian economy has maintained robust growth. Preliminary estimates project a real GDP growth rate of 7.4 percent for the financial year 2025-26, marking the fourth consecutive year India is the fastest-growing major economy.

The Finance Minister credited Prime Minister Modi’s leadership for strengthening India’s broad economic base and successfully navigating global challenges to sustain a high growth trajectory, with GDP growth reaching 7 percent.

She also stated that the government is advancing rapidly on fiscal consolidation without compromising on growth, targeting a fiscal deficit of 4.4 percent for the fiscal year 2026.
