
New Delhi, February 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, on Thursday. This meeting took place during the India AI Impact Summit, where both leaders discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated, “Recalling the historic ties between India and the UAE, both leaders discussed mutual cooperation and expressed happiness over progress in various sectors. They also explored ways to increase collaboration in AI.”
The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi is attending the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, hosted by PM Modi. This significant event, the first of its kind in the Global South, features numerous heads of state, prime ministers, senior officials, tech experts, and key decision-makers from the artificial intelligence sector.
Sheikh Khalid arrived in New Delhi late Wednesday to participate in the AI Impact Summit. Central Minister of Rural Development and Communications, Chandrashekhar Pemmasani, welcomed him at the airport. The MEA noted in a statement, “The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is welcomed to India for the AI Impact Summit. Minister Pemmasani greeted him at the airport. India and the UAE are trusted partners in advanced technology, working together to advance AI for a smart and shared future.”
On Thursday, PM Modi inaugurated the India AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Addressing the audience, he emphasized that it is a moment of pride for the Global South to host the AI Impact Summit in India, highlighting the urgent need for responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence in this rapidly changing technological era.
He stated, “I welcome you all to the world’s largest and most historic AI summit. India, where this summit is taking place, represents one-sixth of the world; it is a young nation and a hub of the largest tech pool, exemplifying a robust tech ecosystem. India not only creates new technologies but also adopts them in unprecedented ways.”
He continued, “On behalf of 1.4 billion Indians, I warmly welcome the heads of state, leaders of the global AI ecosystem, and innovators participating in this summit. Hosting this summit in India is a matter of pride not only for the country but also for the Global South.”
During his speech, AI-enabled sign language interpretation was showcased in the background, demonstrating the practical applications of the technology being discussed at the summit.
