PM Modi Affirms Indias Resilience Amid Global Challenges

New Delhi, March 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that India is moving forward with renewed confidence. Instead of avoiding challenges, India now confronts them head-on. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, challenges have been on the rise. Not a single year has passed since the pandemic that hasn’t tested India and its people. The Prime Minister addressed the ‘What India Thinks Today Summit-2026’ in Delhi on Monday.

He emphasized that India is now a rapidly advancing economy. Leaving behind the conditions of pre-2014, India is progressing with a new sense of confidence. Rather than evading challenges, India faces them directly. The world is currently grappling with serious issues, making discussions about India and the global landscape highly relevant.

Modi noted that through the united efforts of 1.4 billion Indians, India continues to advance despite facing disasters. Many countries are astonished by India’s policies and strategies, especially in times of war.

In the past 23 days, India has demonstrated remarkable capabilities in relationship-building, decision-making, and crisis management. At a time when the world is divided into various factions, India has established extraordinary relationships from Gulf nations to Western countries, and from the Global South to its neighbors. Today, India stands as a reliable partner for all. When asked, “Whose side are we on?” my answer is, “We are with India. We are with India’s interests. We are for peace and dialogue.”

He remarked that in a world fragmented into numerous camps, India has built unprecedented and unimaginable bridges. From the Gulf to the Global West, and from the Global South to neighboring countries, India is a trustworthy ally for everyone. When asked whose side we are on, the answer remains the same: we are with India, with its interests, for peace, and for dialogue.

Targeting the opposition, he criticized those who, despite knowing the oil bond decision was wrong, made that choice to save their power, as accountability was not required at that time. The repayment for that bond was due after 2020. Over the past 5-6 years, our government has worked to rectify the mistakes of the Congress government, and this cleanup has not come cheap.

He urged people to remember what happened between 2004 and 2010. During the Congress government, there was a crisis in petrol, diesel, and gas prices. At that time, Congress was more concerned about its power than the nation. They issued oil bonds worth ₹1.48 lakh crore. The then Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, acknowledged that they were burdening future generations with debt.

Modi pointed out that when personal interests dominate politics, individuals focus on their futures rather than the country’s. He reiterated the challenges faced globally, stating that no nation can remain untouched by the adverse effects of wars occurring in various parts of the world. Some political parties are trying to exploit these circumstances for their gain.

Plans have been made before, but today results are visible. The pace of progress has accelerated. Previously, possibilities were dim, but now resolutions are turning into achievements. The world is receiving the message that this is a new India, leaving no stone unturned in its development.

He criticized the West Bengal government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, stating that schemes like Ayushman Bharat, PM Surya Grah Electricity Scheme, and housing initiatives for tea garden workers have been stalled. This indicates that the ruthless government prioritizes its political interests over development and public welfare. West Bengal was once a hub of culture, education, industry, and trade. The central government has invested significantly in West Bengal’s development over the past 11 years, but unfortunately, a ruthless government is hindering progress.

The Prime Minister asserted that the Congress party’s political stance has consistently been against development. This has been their approach since my tenure in Gujarat. For years, the people of Gujarat have given us a clear mandate, yet the Congress party has repeatedly refused to acknowledge the people’s will.
